Our Mission
"...Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..."
The “Great Commission” in the Gospel of Matthew 28 lies at the heart of the mission of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS):
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)
Guided by this commission, the mission of the CCCAS is further expressed through the following theological mandates:
Witness to Christ
To bear witness and further the cause of Jesus Christ in the world by revealing the redemptive power of God—demonstrated through our words, actions, and daily living.
Worship in Truth and Spirit
To worship God with sincerity and devotion, and to lead others into a life of true worship.
Promote Justice and Peace
To labor wholeheartedly for the welfare of others to promote justice and peace so that all may experience the blessings of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Inspire Christian Living
To nurture in all people a love for Christ, a passion for righteousness, and a deep awareness of their responsibilities to God and to one another.
Serve with Compassion
To join with fellow Christians in charitable work, offering care and assistance to the downcast, the poor, the weak, the sick, and the neglected.
Testify to God’s Love
To testify to the abundant love of God so that all people—and all creation—may share in the blessings that flow from God’s grace.
Faithful Stewardship
To steward God’s creation with faithfulness and responsibility, recognizing that caring for the earth is an expression of our obedience to God and our love for future generations.
Nurture Christian Families
To nurture and strengthen Christian families as the foundation of faith, discipleship, and communal life, guiding households to grow in love, prayer, and obedience to God.
Intergenerational Ministry
To proclaim the Gospel with courage and humility in every generation, equipping believers to witness to Christ in changing cultural, social, and technological landscapes.
Unity Towards Cooperative Ministry
To cultivate unity within the Body of Christ, promoting reconciliation, mutual respect, and cooperative ministry among all who confess Jesus as Lord.
These mandates not only embody the mission of the CCCAS but also faithfully express its ecclesiological identity and enduring commitment to Christian service. Since its inception in 1980, the CCCAS has carried out this mission with steadfast devotion—through its relationships with its ecumenical partners abroad and dedicated service to the Samoan Christian communities in American Samoa, the United States, New Zealand, and Australia.
With more than 100 member congregations united in faith and service to God, the CCCAS continues to live out God’s mission as proclaimed by the Risen Christ: “Go and make disciples of all nations…..teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
