Kanana Fou Theological College

"Equipping Church Leaders Today for God's Mission Tomorrow"

Kanana Fou Theological College (KFTC), formerly known as “Kanana Fou Theological Seminary,” is the theological training institution of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS), and stands as the spiritual and academic heart of the Church’s ministerial formation.

When the CCCAS was formally established in 1980, one of its most urgent priorities was the creation of a theological institution dedicated to preparing its own clergy for faithful and effective ministry. Through prayerful discernment, visionary leadership, and careful planning, KFTC was founded in 1983 to fulfill this calling. The College initially offered the Diploma in Theology, serving primarily Samoan clergy, but soon expanded its reach to welcome students from neighboring Pacific nations such as Tuvalu, Niue, and Nauru, strengthening its role as a regional center for theological education.

Today, KFTC offers the Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree and the Certificate of Theological Studies (CTS) for women and laity seeking foundational theological formation. Following the CCCAS’s historic 2004 decision to sanction the ordination of women, the BD program was formally opened to female candidates, deepening the College’s commitment to inclusive, Scripture‑rooted, and culturally grounded theological education.

In terms of governance, KFTC operates under the authority of the Elders’ Committee(Komiti a le ‘Au Toeaina) through its sub‑committee, the Board of Regents(Komiti Fa‘afoe). The President of the College is appointed by the Elders’ Committee to a five‑year term, while the College’s lecturers—entrusted with teaching, mentoring, and implementing its academic programs—also serve terms of at least five years, ensuring stability, continuity, and academic integrity.

For more than four decades, Kanana Fou Theological College has remained steadfast in its mission: to prepare faithful, theologically grounded, and spiritually mature leaders for the CCCAS, the wider Pacific church community, and God’s mission throughout the world. Its legacy continues to shape the life, witness, and future of the Church it serves.
