LBJ Hospital Chaplaincy

“Bringing Christ’s Comfort and Hope to the Sick and Suffering”

The LBJ Hospital Chaplaincy is one of the most compassionate ministries of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS). Rooted in Christ’s call to comfort the sick and uphold the weary, this chaplaincy serves patients, families, and hospital staff during some of life’s most vulnerable and challenging moments. Through prayer, pastoral counseling, bedside visitation, and spiritual companionship, CCCAS chaplains offer a steady and faith‑filled presence within the island’s only hospital— the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Tropical Medical Center,a 150-bed medical facility built in 1968 and located in the village of Fagaalu.

As part of the CCCAS’s long‑standing commitment to holistic care, the LBJ Chaplaincy ministers not only to physical needs but also to the emotional and spiritual well‑being of the community. Chaplains walk alongside individuals facing illness, uncertainty, grief, and recovery—affirming that every person is held in the love and mercy of God. They also support medical professionals and caregivers, offering encouragement and spiritual grounding in the midst of demanding work.

The LBJ Chaplaincy stands as a visible expression of the Church’s mission to serve with compassion, uphold human dignity, and bring the hope of Christ to those seeking comfort and healing.
