Council for World Mission

"Life-flourishing Communities, living out God’s promise of a New Heaven and a New Earth"

The Council for World Mission (CWM) is a global partnership of 36 Christian churches committed to sharing resources—people, finances, skills, and theological insight—to carry out God’s mission in local contexts around the world. As a fellowship rooted in mutuality and justice, CWM empowers its member churches to participate in mission that is life‑giving, transformative, and responsive to the needs of their communities.

As the successor organization of the London Missionary Society (LMS), the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS) is historically linked to CWM than to any other ecumenical organization.

CWM’s story stretches back to the great missionary movements of the 19th century. Formed in 1977, it brought together the historic London Missionary Society (1795), the Commonwealth Missionary Society (1836), and the Presbyterian Board of Missions (1847) into a single global body dedicated to partnership in mission. Since the establishment of the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS) in 1980, the CCCAS has maintained a close and enduring relationship with CWM, continuing the legacy of mission that began with the LMS in the Pacific.

CWM offers a wide range of programs designed to strengthen the ministry and mission of its member churches. Over the years, the CCCAS has benefited greatly from these initiatives, which have supported leadership development, theological formation, congregational empowerment, and mission engagement across the life of the Church.

Programs such as the Mission Support Program, Capacity Development Program, Mission Church Initiative Program, Leadership Formation Program, and Partners in Mission Program have played a significant role in advancing CCCAS ministries. Through these programs, CWM resources have supported the growth and development of Kanana Fou High School, strengthened the academic and ministerial formation at Kanana Fou Theological College, assisted the ministries of several CCCAS congregations, empowered mission congregations abroad, and provided leadership training and opportunities for Youth and Women’s ministries.

Through this partnership, the CCCAS continues to participate in a global fellowship committed to justice, mission, and the flourishing of God’s people. The relationship with CWM remains a vital part of the Church’s identity and it’s calling to serve both locally and globally.
