United Church of Christ

"God is still Speaking, All Loving and Inclusive"

The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a diverse and vibrant community of Christians united in the belief that faith and action belong together. With more than 5,000 congregations and nearly one million members across the United States, the UCC is committed to serving God by working toward a just, compassionate, and sustainable world. Known as a “church of firsts,” the UCC is recognized for its bold witness, its extravagant welcome, and its commitment to the prayer of Jesus “that they may all be one” (John 17:21).

The relationship between the UCC and the CCCAS began as early as 1984. In 1996, the CCCAS General Assembly formally approved a partnership with the UCC as mutual partners in mission. Representatives of both churches met in 1997 to articulate the theological foundations of this relationship, culminating in the signing of the “Partnership in Mission and Ministry” in 1998. This covenant was later ratified by the CCCAS General Assembly in 1999 and by the 22nd UCC General Synod. In December 2018, leaders from both churches gathered in Honolulu, Hawai‘i to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this enduring partnership.

As one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, the UCC has been a generous and steadfast partner to the CCCAS. Through its financial ministry—the UCC Cornerstone Fund—the UCC provided significant support for the renovation of the CCCAS main sanctuary, Ua Taunuu, dedicated in January 2019. In a spirit of mutual trust, the UCC has also extended access to the Cornerstone Fund to all CCCAS member congregations.  Further collaboration is underway between the CCCAS and the UCC Pension Board to explore pension benefits and financial security options for CCCAS clergy and employees. Through its global mission arm, Global Ministries, the UCC also offers opportunities for CCCAS members to participate in overseas mission, expanding the Church’s reach and strengthening its global witness.

Through this partnership, the CCCAS and UCC continue to walk together in faith, mission, and shared commitment to the Gospel—supporting one another in ministry and serving God’s people both locally and globally.
